12 Things You Should Know About Dental Prosthetics

Dental prosthetics are an ideal solution for individuals who have lost some of their natural teeth. Today, prosthetic teeth are one of the most commonly preferred treatments in oral health. They are designed to protect your smile and oral aesthetics while restoring missing teeth to their natural function. When placed correctly, prosthetic teeth help rebuild the integrity of the mouth, bringing back both function and appearance.

If you are considering dental prosthetics or have missing teeth, you can contact Milim Dental to schedule an appointment and learn more from our specialist dentists.

Important Things to Know About Dental Prosthetics

  1. Remove your prosthesis every night to allow the oral tissues to rest.
  2. Brush your prosthetic teeth daily to prevent plaque and food buildup.
  3. If you use fixed dentures, brush twice a day and do not skip flossing. Clean the underside of the bridge with special floss or interdental brushes to prevent gum disease and bad breath.
  4. If using removable dentures, remove and rinse them after meals.
  5. Use special prosthetic brushes or soft-bristled toothbrushes for cleaning.
  6. Avoid products that may damage the surface polish of the prosthesis.
  7. Do NOT use detergent, bleach, or soap on prosthetic teeth.
  8. Use denture cleaning tablets at least twice a week and soak the dentures overnight.
  9. Cleaning tablets provide an additional chemical cleaning apart from brushing.
  10. When not wearing your dentures, always keep them in water to prevent drying or warping.
  11. To prevent breaking the denture during brushing, clean it over a soft towel or a bowl of water.
  12. Visit your dentist at least twice a year for routine checks and adjustments to prevent future problems.

Wisdom teeth (third molars) do not behave the same way in everyone. In some people, they erupt fully and remain problem-free for life; in others, they stay partially impacted, causing food impaction, bacterial accumulation, recurring infections (pericoronitis), or decay on the neighboring tooth. Some remain completely impacted in the bone, “silent” yet potentially risky.
